The animals of the area have adapted to the rigors of time. Oymyakon horses are very robust,
short-legged and with thick fur. They have been used in many polar expeditions. They are semi-wild horses and rarely accept to be mounted. They are used as beasts of burden and their meat is highly valued by the villagers who eat very few vegetables, because most fruits and vegetables are ruined at such low temperatures.
